Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences Seeks Research Associate


The University of Colorado is recruiting a Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) Research Associate with expertise in statistical post-processing and background in ensemble forecasting and/or data assimilation. This job is in the Global Systems Division of NOAA’s Earth System Research Lab in Boulder, Colorado.

The candidate will contribute to achieving GSD’s research and development objectives in a number of areas, including research and development aimed at improved methods for statistical post-processing of ensemble forecasts; testing and evaluation of statistical post-processing methods for areas such as tropical cyclone, heavy precipitation, aviation, and other severe weather forecasting; contribution to the assessment of analysis, forecast, and observational errors; and contribution to the development of advanced ensemble and data assimilation techniques.

This job requires a PhD in meteorology, applied mathematics, or related fields with specialization in ensemble forecasting and data assimilation methods, with strong experience with statistical post-processing of ensemble forecasts. Additional requirements include knowledge of and experience with probability and statistics, numerical models, programming languages, and scripting.
